Philips Launches First Sonic Powered Air Flossing System

Oral Health had thepeasure to attend the launch of Philips “First Sonic Powered Air Flossing System“.

“By brushing teeth regularly but neglecting to floss, Canadians are only cleaning approximately two thirds of their teeth. That’s equivalent to taking a shower and not cleaning a significant portion of your body,” said Paul Jessen, Marketing Manager, Philips Electronics Ltd. “With Sonicare AirFloss, consumers will be more inclined to make interdental cleaning a part of their daily routine because it’s easy to use and extremely effective.”

The Philips Sonicare AirFloss is specifically designed to break down and remove plaque between teeth and under the gumline. Unlike traditional dental floss, Sonicare AirFloss uses micro-burst technology to force pressurized air and water droplets in between teeth, mechanically removing plaque.

Though dentists and hygienists have long touted the importance of interdental cleaning as an essential part of achieving optimal oral health, nearly three quarters of Canadians still shy away from flossing.[i] Taking less than 60 seconds to use and requiring only one teaspoon of water, AirFloss eliminates the mess and fuss that comes with traditional flossing, encouraging consumers to floss more frequently.

Recent clinical studies found that among a group of irregular flossers, 86 per cent found Sonicare AirFloss easier to use than string floss and after one month of use, 96 per cent of them continued to use Sonicare AirFloss at least four times per week.[ii]

Additional features of the new Philips Sonicare AirFloss include:

· Modern ergonomic design for easy handling and proper technique

· Micro-burst technology that is gentle on soft tissue and dental work

· An angled neck and guidance tip to get into and find the spaces between teeth

· Only one teaspoon of water or mouthwash is required to clean the entire mouth

Also new to the Philips Sonicare portfolio is the Sonicare EasyClean power toothbrush, which offers consumers advanced plaque removal and cleaning action. With its patented Sonic Technology, the Sonicare EasyClean gently reaches deep between teeth and along the gumline removing up to two times more plaque than a manual toothbrush.

Equipped with Quadpacer technology, EasyClean encourages thorough brushing of each quadrant of the mouth signaling users to move to the next quadrant with a short beep and pause in brushing action. Additionally, its built-in Smartimer automatically stops the toothbrush after the dentist-recommended brushing time of two minutes.

Additional features of the new Philips Sonicare EasyClean include:

• ProResults brush head that provides broad sweeping motion and contour fit bristles

• Slim handle for comfort and maneuverability

• Multi-voltage compact travel charger

Sonicare AirFloss will be available for $99.99 CDN by September 2011 at Shoppers Drug Mart, Bed Bath & Beyond, Amazon.ca and London Drugs.
