Volunteer Dental Outreach launched its new program Dentists to the Docks this spring to gain the invaluable volunteer services of Dentists to help the financially disadvantaged in Haliburton County by providing free dental services to those in need. Dentists to the Docks encourages Dentists from the surrounding counties and all over Ontario to volunteer their time to helping those in need while visiting the beautiful cottage country of Haliburton County.
Dentists participating in this program can decide when during the year they would like to volunteer and how much of their time they are willing to donate. Every effort will be made to find the volunteering Dentists suitable accommodations during their volunteer visits, which can range from numerous visits a month to several visits a year.
Dentists to the Docks is a vital program to helping the underprivileged residents of Haliburton County where even the cost of basic dental care is beyond the reach of an alarming number of Haliburton County residents who continue to suffer physically, socially, psychologically and economically because of this. Volunteer Dental Outreach for Haliburton County clinic has been operating since May 19th 2011 serving as a community dental assistance program providing free urgent dental care for low income residents of Haliburton County. A team of seven volunteer Dentists and several hygienists at the Volunteer Dental Outreach clinic have provided over $250,000 in free dental care to over 175 patients in need, offering 725 appointments to low income residents of the community within just under a year of opening its doors to the community. More volunteers are needed to meet the increasing demand for this program.
