Accessibility – Special-needs people need dental care, too

From – Dr. John Reitz – Readingeagle.com

I received an email from a nonprofit organization, Abilities in Motion, concerning a newly published dental video series that assists patients with developmental disabilities. The video was produced with the help of the Pennsylvania Developmental Disabilities Council and is a great resource for families and dentists. Developmental disabilities such as Down syndrome, autism and fetal alcohol syndrome are a diverse group of severe chronic conditions that are due to mental and/or physical impairments. People with developmental disabilities have problems with fundamentals of life such as language, mobility, learning, self-help and independent living, including dental care. A pediatric dentist from the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh made the video series, “Home Dental Care for Individuals With Disabilities.” The video was designed to help individuals and their families with home dental care.
