Social capital refers to the value you derive because of your social contacts. In the online world, you need to make conscious efforts to build your online social capital in order to reap dividends from this intangible investment. You may be so busy with your professional life as a dentist that it can get difficult to maintain a contact with effective influencers who can provide a boost to your social capital. This is where online social capital can work as a good substitute.

Most of the key influencers in the dental profession are likely to be active online, whether through a website, blog, social networking, or a combination of these. Therefore, when you are unable engage with them regularly at actual events and conferences to build relationships, you can do the same in the virtual world by connecting with them online.
