The power of social media

I sincerely hope that the reason for sharing this YOU TUBE video with dentists is understood. We are so incredibly fortunate to do what we do.  We are autonomous, even the insanity of the “ya can’t treat your spouse” law that will probably be on the books ten years from now or about the time Rob Ford is re-elected for the 5th time due to an apathetic turn out at the polls, is not draconian……it’s just laughable. I keep “begging” for clinical content to no avail; “no time, too busy, what exactly do you want, yadda, yadda and yadda” and anon…….again, laughable.  How privileged we are in this country to practice dentistry. We make comfortable livings, the governance outside of the insanity of encrypting emails is reasonable, no one really interferes with what we do and for the most part we are a respected member of society, we provide for our families, we reap the benefits of a life well lived………..but millions don’t. So the point of this tangential stream of blather is that the potential for media to serve a greater good really needs to be understood. There are endless degrees of proportionality; media’s use to learn, to share, to educate, to collaborate is so potent……….now watch the video below, it’s had 39 million hits so far…..and then ask yourself, isn’t it logical to be connected in our profession and to correct inequities, ensure standards of excellence, and quality of care.  Cuz in the final analysis, a butterfly effect could have put you front and center in the YOU TUBE below rather than at the sports bar where you are reading this on your iPAD or heaven forbid, your Playbook. Share this with someone you care about, better yet, someone you don’t.
