Hands-on exercises in observation of joint sounds and movements combined with evaluation of the muscles of mastication help you connect what you see and hear to what the patient does. Mounting casts with a facebow and bite records taken with your partners puts what the patient does in three dimensions and in your hands for detailed analysis. Fabricating and adjusting an anterior bite plane removes the interaction of teeth and illustrates the contribution of occlusion to what the patient experiences. Finally, exercises in trial equilibration bring the concepts to reality and prepare you to take it to the mouth.
