PROGRAM OUTLINE
Oral surgery has been practiced for millennia. Our evolving understanding of
physiology and advances in instrumentation and pharmacology is making it
possible to ensure that patients are more comfortable than ever to undergo
safe and predictable care. All dentists need an understanding of basic perioperative assessment and management of oral surgical patients. This is even
more paramount when dealing with medically challenging patients.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
• Evaluate a patient for appropriate oral surgery treatment;
• Manage common post-operative sequelae and or arrange for appropriate
referral;
• Understand the potential complications associated with common oral
surgical procedures.

Basic Principles of Oral Surgery
PROGRAM OUTLINE
This is a continuation of the morning session emphasizing the techniques of
dentoalveolar surgery.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
• Review the indications and techniques of oral surgery procedures;
• Prevention, mitigation, and management of complications;
• Management of impacted teeth;
• Site optimization strategies for implant placement.
