CandidPro – A Triple Play in Clear Aligner Therapy

by Lou Shuman, DMD, CAGS, CEO and Founder of Cellerant Consulting

In baseball, triple plays are rare. They are game changers that can make all the difference. Candid brings that same energy to orthodontics.

Candid is distinguishing itself from others by its

  1. Transformative technology
  2. Commitment to service
  3. Dedication to support

Transformative Technologies

One of the company’s software tools is the CandidMonitoring, which allows patients to scan their teeth at home, or from wherever they are. All they need is a scan box and a phone. The patient places their phone into the scan box and takes a series of photos and videos of their mouth. This takes about 5 minutes and can be done 24 hours a day. “When that notification arrives in the Candid system, AI evaluates how the teeth are moving,” says Candid CEO Nick Greenfield. “At that time, the CandidApp either tells the patient automatically to continue to the next step – or if there’s any escalation or issue, we can flag any issue directly to the treating doctor or orthodontist on the Candid team.” Orthodontists review escalated cases and make a recommendation to the dentist. This minimizes office visits, which is especially helpful in the light of the current staff shortages – and it’s convenient for the patient.

“We’ve been able to test Candid’s compliance because we have been able to compare Candid’s process with and without monitoring,” says Greenfield. Candid’s treatment process, via the CandidApp, has an extraordinary 90 percent patient scan compliance rate. For patients, the feedback and rewards are key to the success of the platform. For dentists, that means fewer refinements and corrections, faster treatment completion and happier patients.

Besides its innovative orthodontic Rx, Candid decided to grow another very important sector in this space: sleep. Brian Ganey, Senior Vice President of Sales explains. “We have worked with several key opinion leaders and very strong faculty who have robust experience with airway protocols. Through several meaningful alliances with various sleep organizations, we discovered how this can benefit them and complement other therapies. We have studied how to move and position teeth into a symmetrical arch formation with an appropriate tongue resting position to alleviate certain issues.”

Service

Candid is completely dedicated to being there for its providers. Dedicated experts will be on call to support case selection and any ongoing clinical advice mid-treatment. For marketing support, Candid’s marketing team works with practices to run campaigns and create assets. Ganey says, “Our goal is to provide the dentist with confidence for aligner treatment planning, monitoring, and marketing. If you think about how many potential aligner patients come out of the hygiene chair on a daily basis, with the scope of training and support we provide, it’s easy to grow that awareness and case acceptance.”

Support

A live chat tool inside the CandidApp allows patients to ask clinical and non-clinical questions. Clinical questions get escalated to the doctor. But about 80 percent to 90 percent of questions are non-clinical. For questions such as, “Can I drink wine while I’m wearing my aligner?” an AI chat-bot or live chat support are available during extended hours, nights, and weekends so front desk staff don’t have to be.

Candid is coming to Canada soon. “We can’t wait to be a part of the Canadian market,” says Greenfield. “It’s an amazing market for the general dentist doing aligners. With our combination of technology, service, and support, we are focusing really hard on helping our practitioners unlock their full potential. With Candid, dentists can enter the aligner space with a tech-forward company that has a true dedication to the practitioner. That makes me proud to be a part of the team.”

Candid coming to Canada soon?! That hits it out of the park for me. Grand slam!
