pH of Carbonated Beverage Brands Compared to Critical pH for Enamel Demineralization at T=25oC. Almost all commercially available and home-made beverages exhibit pH values exceeding the critical pH for fluorapatite dissolution. Chilling the beverages before consumption may raise the pH above the critical pH owing to the endothermic nature of H2O(1) dissolution to it its constituent ions. Yellow = sparkling/still water. Blue = sparkling/still soda beverages. Grey = Critical pH for demineralization of enamel (hydroxyapatite). Yellow = Critical pH for demineralization of fluoride-treated enamel (fluorapatite).
