FIGURE 1 A 10 mm pocket after removal of packing and scaling. The tooth pictured was packed three times over a period of about eight or nine days. No anaesthetic was used and the patient experienced no discomfort at any time during or after the treatment. Observations:  Note the lack of hemorrhaging.  The interproximal soft tissue has been eliminated.  The gingival form and level prior to packing are still visible on adjacent teeth.  The diagnostic light is positioned to light up the pocket and also to transilluminate the gigiva and root.
