Design a chic yet contemporary dental office that doesn’t look like a dental office within a set budget. This was the challenge posed for designing Hillsview Dental Care, on Stream d.c.p. Inc., a residential design firm.
Hila and her team’s (Kathy and Tina) biggest challenge would be to create a distinctive yet functional office in a world where functional needs led to most offices having very little difference between them. She started with patient seating, replacing the typical clutter of chairs with banquette seating, creating a streamlined look.
Hila also separated the sterilization centre, working with Russell Showman and Jim Clarke of Dentrix Construction, to build a unique plexi glass design suspended with wires. This was an alternative to the usual glass walls, establishing a clean division between it and the hallway. Dan Burns of Sinclair Dental supplied state-of-the-art equipment, such as digital radiographs and introduced the dentist to a new paperless software with touch screen technology.
The dentist was ecstatic with the results and highly recommends the design team. “I felt that I needed someone fresh, outside the dental field, in order to achieve the look I was seeking.”
