Life Dentistry is a new 6-operatory, 2,300- square-foot dental clinic located in southeast Edmonton. The partnership of Dr. Brett Shkopich and Dr. Saud Ahmad included a vision that was dynamic in colour with timeless architectural features for their first clinic build. Life dentistry looks to pair life balance with inspiration from nature and integrated technology for their patient’s care experience. Enclosed operatories and a circular flow through the clinic with a centralized sterilization area was key in creating a functional clinic for both staff and patients.
Upon entering the clinic, a custom planter creates infrastructure for a plantscape barrier between the entrance and waiting area, creating physical separation while maintaining visual connection.
This entry is adorned with direct and indirect lighting to create an angular tree canopy in shape and colour and bring the existing base building 20-foot ceiling to human height. Patients are welcomed with a custom terrazzo concrete paneled front desk in combination with a textured wall covering, creating a dramatic backdrop to the reception desk.
White gloss cabinets contrast the natural cherry wood accents found in the lighting, millwork trimming and natural birch tree alcoves throughout the clinic. The birch tree alcoves are lit to mimic natural light peeking through or over the trees, giving a soft, natural ambiance.
A feature accent tree with linear LED lighting was created in the corridor, in combination with the rich green colour to support finding your way through the mostly enclosed operatory clinic.
Technology is incorporated in the design quietly with Samsung Frame screens that rotate artwork, clinic branding or education as needed. This clinic is architecturally modern in style, while politely borrowing from nature’s palette in materials to create an inspiring environment.
