Ottawa–“Many conditions that plague the body are manifested in the mouth, a readily accessible vantage point from which to view the onset, progress and management of numerous systemic diseases” according to the Oral-Systemic Health Connection from the US-based National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research.
The Dentistry Canada Fund (DCF), the Canadian charity for oral health, believes it has a responsibility to perform a national role in responding to the silent epidemic of oral health issues associated with general health. The DCF is undertaking a $10 million campaign to build a fund to enable it to provide $500,000 of research and education grants annually.
