Technology: Storage Planning

The following sizes can be used as guidelines when planning storage arrays for digital systems. These are average sizes and will vary depending on your specific hardware, software, and compression ratios.

Digital Image Sizes

Digital Intra-Oral Radiograph 1MB
Digital Intra-Oral Camera Image 1MB
Digital Camera Image 3MB
Digital Pan 4MB

“Hard Drives” are used to store digital images, and are sized using GB (GigaBytes). 1GB is equal to 1,000MB (MegaBytes). 1GB of drive space will therefore hold about 10,000 digital intra-oral radiographs.
