3 Couples Killed In Plane Crash Following Florida Dental Seminar

Authorities say three married couples were killed following the crash of a small airplane that took off from a Kissimmee airport.

The couples were visiting Central Florida for a dental seminar over the weekend. They departed from Kissimmee Gateway Airport about 10 a.m. Sunday to head back to Mississippi.

A pilot issued a distress signal around 11:10 a.m. and the aircraft went down moments later short of a runway at Tuscaloosa Regional Airport, Northport Mayor Bobby Herndon said during a joint news conference with Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox.

Firefighters made it to the site within three minutes of the crash but were unable to save any of the six people on board, Herndon said.
