Adelaide Teenager Forced To Quit School Over Dental Issues As Thousands Await Public Care

An Adelaide student who says she’s been waiting years for “life-changing” dental and orthodontic surgery in the public system has had to drop out of mainstream school because of her health issues.

Nikki Torpy’s family cannot afford private health insurance, and instead are at the mercy of the public dental system.

According to the SA Dental Service, Nikki is one of more than 430 children waiting for orthodontic work in the public system, with almost half of that number expected to wait more than two years for surgery.
