Baltimore-Area Dentist Selected as President-Elect of the American Dental Association

Dr. George R. Shepley, D.D.S., will assume presidency in 2022

Dr. George R. Shepley, a general dentist in Baltimore, Md., is the president-elect of the American Dental Association (ADA). Dr. Shepley was recently elected at the ADA House of Delegates Meeting during SmileCon™ in Las Vegas on October 16. Dr. Shepley served as Fourth District Trustee of the American Dental Association prior to being elected as president-elect.

He is a life member of the ADA and served as an alternate or delegate from 2006 to 2017. Additionally, Dr. Shepley was chair of the ADA Council on Communications, Budget and Finance Committee and the Committee on Annual Meetings. He also served two terms on the State Public Affairs Oversight Committee. Dr. Shepley has been a Board liaison to the Council on Members Insurance, the American Student Dental Association (ASDA), the Council on Government Affairs and the American Dental Political Action Committee (ADPAC).

Dr. Shepley is an active member of the Maryland State Dental Association (MSDA), serving as its president, and he is a current member of the MSDA Dental Association Company Board and the MSDA Legislative Committee. He was also past president of the Baltimore City Dental Society and the Maryland Academy of General Dentistry. He recently completed a six-year tenure as a trustee for the Academy of General Dentistry, where he also previously served as chair of the Dental Education Council and division coordinator of the Dental Education Division.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Shepley has earned a number of fellowships from prominent organizations, including the American College of Dentists, the International College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He was a faculty member at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry as a lecturer in Dental Ethics from 2009 to 2012. He also has participated in Maryland Missions of Mercy and has been an active participant in the Donated Dental Service Program since 1990.

Dr. Shepley graduated from the West Virginia University School of Dentistry in 1977. He has practiced dentistry in Baltimore since 1978. Dr. Shepley and his wife Ellen live in Baltimore, Maryland and have three children and two grandchildren.
