Better Access to Root Canals for Low-income New Yorkers

A new legal settlement has been reached that makes it easier for millions of low-income New Yorkers to access routine dental care. The New York Department of Health must life some of it’s restrictions for Medicaid recipients, which is expected to expand dental coverage for 5 million people.

In the past, “A mouth with just four pairs of matching back teeth is considered ‘adequate for functional purposes,’ according to the state’s rules for Medicaid recipients. And those considered functional, no matter how many other teeth they’re missing, aren’t covered for root canals and crowns, two of the field’s most common procedures,” reported CityNews.

Now restrictions like these are being changed, improving the oral health through root canals and crowns, rather than just pulling teeth.
