Elite Athletes’ Performances Improved by Using Better Toothpaste, New Research Suggests

Team GB’s cyclists, rowers and other elite athletes should use high fluoride toothpaste and make sure they floss if they want to stay at the very top level of competition, according to new research.

Those that do reported significantly reduced negative effects on performance related to poor oral health, a study led by UCL found.

Previous research has found that elite athletes have substantial rates of oral disease, including tooth decay and gum inflammation, symptoms which have a detrimental affect on their sporting performance.
