England Continues to Face Dental Shortages and Patient Backlogs

BBC News recently reported on a Cambridgeshire dentist who nearly quit dentistry due to the long hours and patient backlog.

Dr. Jack Slaymaker was working with the NHS and had to experience many patients taking out their frustrations on him. Now he is working privately and much happier with better resources and options.

The British Dental Association (BDA) reported that 50% of dentists in England had reduced their work with the NHS since the pandemic. The difference in pay between NHS and private work is major and many dentists are not able to take on as much NHS work due to the rising cost of living.
