IsraAID Now Approved to Provide Continuing Education Credits for Dentists

IsraAID, a leading global humanitarian relief NGO, is now approved by the Academy of General Dentistry’s Program Approval for Continuing Education (PACE) to provide Continuing Education (CE) credits. Russian American Dental Association (RADA), Center for Professional Development, and Henry Schein, Inc.  are all partnering with IsraAID in this initiative. The organization’s first accredited event will take place on April 10th, 2019, at UCLA, where its IsraAID Humanitarian Professionals Network (IHPN) program is presenting a talk entitled “WASH Humanitarian Missions: Best Practices Defined.”

The talk will focus on ways to provide access to safe water and promote hygiene practices in emergency relief and long-term development programs worldwide. The speaker, Lior Singer, is an Environmental Engineer and a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) who managed IsraAID’s WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) program in Kakuma Refugee Camp, in Kenya, from 2014-2015.

“IsraAID draws on Israeli social innovation and expertise to benefit people in need around the world,” said Seth H. Davis, Executive Director of IsraAID U.S. “We are thrilled to offer dentists—key professional members of our aid work—more ways to be involved in disaster relief and grow our impact even further than the 2 million people we have served to date.”

Another opportunity for dentists is a July 2019 mission IsraAID is currently planning to Kenya, where IsraAID is one of the longest-term recovery providers. Last year, IsraAID and Henry Schein, Inc., the world’s leading provider of health care products and services to office-based dentists and medical practitioners, partnered with local professionals and agencies to operate four dental clinics serving 200,000+ refugees.

“We are pleased to support IsraAID’s efforts to expand access to oral health care for the men, women, and children most in need,” said Stanley M. Bergman, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Henry Schein, Inc. “To that end, we have taken several steps to expand access to care for vulnerable populations in the Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya, including supporting the volunteer health care professionals who provide critical dental care to this community.  We encourage our professional partners to learn more about how they can meaningfully engage with disaster relief efforts through educational programs like this one offered by IsraAID.”

“I am very excited about this partnership,” said Rada Sumareva, DDS, Founder of the Russian American Dental Association. “I feel it is really important to encourage and enable dental professional to be global citizens, use their skills set  to make a difference and build bridges amongst people.”

IsraAID’s IHPN group is coordinating that trip as well. IHPN is an international network of professionals and volunteers who share a passionate interest in humanitarian aid and IsraAID’s long-term recovery work—in 50 countries overall, active in 18 countries today. Members receive expert briefings and trainings on humanitarian aid, international development and disaster response, and access to deployment opportunities with IsraAID.
