Quebec to Opt Out of Federal Dental Program But Seeks Compensation

Following the 2023 budget announcement made by the federal government regarding the $13 billion in funding for the new dental care program, Quebec is planning to opt out.

Quebec Finance Minister Eric Girard said that since Quebec already has its own dental program, they do not want to participate in the new program. However, they wish to receive compensation to help fund the existing programs, which is estimated to be about $3 million over three years.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is open to negotiations.
