Students Are Neglecting Their Oral Health Once Starting College

College students are failing to show up for vital dental checks forcing some to face painful and expensive consequences.

Blenheim dental therapist Andrea Carr revealed some days up to half her patients failed to show for scheduled appointments.

And many have to seek urgent care later on, she says.

She is appealing for teenagers not to risk putting off appointments and to get regular checks.

“Adolescents don’t tend to come to appointments. They might enrol but then just don’t turn up again unless there’s a problem. I don’t think they prioritise seeing a dentist unless they’re motivated by pain.
