The Dental Office Managers Association of Canada & Robertson College

The Dental Office Managers Association of Canada has accredited the first dental office administration diploma program; this program is offered by Robertson College. The accreditation process is intended to ensure national standards of education for all dental office administration programs. The association is in the process of accrediting additional programs that meet the standards that have been set.

The Dental Office Managers Association of Canada was founded in 2015; its vision is to standardize dental office administration practices thereby upholding dental office administration as a respected profession and facilitating an influential community. The association’s Code of Conduct is a comprehensive outline of the duties and responsibilities of an administrator in a dental clinic and the importance of employing certified professionals in key roles. The association provides certification for dental office administrators (CPDOA), dental office managers (CPDOM) and dental consultants (CPDC).

Having been in operation for over 100 years, Robertson College has established itself as a leading private post-secondary institution in Canada. It strives to improve access to quality post-secondary education for all students through both online and on-campus education. Robertson College offers a wide repertoire of diploma and certificate programs in Health Care, Business and Technology and helps students find meaningful employment. The Dental Office Administrator diploma program at Robertson will be available on campus or online through independent study.

“We are excited to have our Dental Office Administrator diploma program accredited by the association. The program had been developed to respond to an increasing demand for professional and knowledgeable team members in dental clinics throughout Canada. Graduates of our program will possess the skills, knowledge and understanding required to help dental offices and dentists be organized, efficient and successful” – Terena Caryk M.Ed., Director of Teaching and Learning with Robertson College.

Upon successful graduation of the program, students will automatically qualify to take the national exam. Once they pass the exam, they will become certified professionals with a national CPDOA certificate.

“As the first and last team member a patient sees in a dental clinic, dental office administrators are key team members, who up until now did not have a clear understanding of scope of work and a peer community to engage with” commented Alex Zlatin, Executive Director of the Dental Office Managers Association of Canada. “The accreditation process is imperative to ensure the quality of educational programs and to verify there is a national standard for the profession. It has been rewarding to work with the great team at Robertson College. The program accreditation is especially important to the industry, as the program is delivered both on the three Campuses and online. We all know how our world has changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and I am happy that the standards are kept through online delivery, making it accessible to all Canadians and international students.”
