Miss Universe Canada finalist, Denise Garrido, has teamed up with top magician, Scott Dietrich, to literally change lives. Their program, “Give a Smile, Get a Smile”, lives up to its name.
- “Give a Smile” refers to the funds raised by the schools through ticket sales to the event. All money raised goes directly to support the life changing work of Operation Smile.
- “Get a Smile” refers to the presentation itself (the students reward). Denise starts it off with a 10min presentation on Cleft Lips and Palates, which informs, demystifies, and fosters empathy. Then Scott presents his award winning magic show with the special guest appearance of his live bunny, Houdini. Smiles are guaranteed!

One of the most important, but lesser known aspects when competing for the Miss Universe Canada crown, is philanthropy. The organization selected two outstanding charities (Operation Smile & SOS Children’s Villages) for the contestants to fundraise for. The life changing work of Operation Smile really moved Miss Garrido, and inspired her to co-create “Give a Smile, Get a Smile”. To date, Denise and Scott have delivered their message to nearly 1,500 students at two schools, with one more scheduled for May 8th. All this takes place prior to the Miss Universe Canada finals, which are being held over the course of two nights, May 23rd and 25th.
