A lifelong strategy for caries

With dentists worldwide seeking guidance on effective ways to implement effective strategies for caries prevention and control, as called for in the Minamata Convention on Mercury, the timing of the International Dental Conference ‘Caries Control throughout life in Asia’, just one month after the first Convention signatures, could not have been better.

The conference was held in Krabi, Thailand, from 20 to 22 November 2013. Its stated objectives were to (1) share and exchange experiences in caries prevention and control; (2) apply new developments caries prevention for future success; and (3) discuss the implementation of phase-down approach to dental amalgam in line with the Minamata Convention.

It was organized by the Thai Dental Innovation Foundation under Royal Patronage (DIF), the Thai Ministry of Public Health and the Dental Association of Thailand. The conference, which brought together 140 participants, was co-sponsored by FDI, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Association for Dental Research (IADR).
