This year, Bob Elliot, volunteer Board Director at AboutFace and Senior Vice President Sales, at SAP Canada is taking a Leap of Faith for Amanda and kids like her: “The support services offered by AboutFace and the support the kids receive at Camp Trailblazers go a long way to helping instill the confidence they need to live with a facial difference. Every day these kids are faced with immense challenges – especially teasing and bullying. Participating in the ‘Leap of Faith’ helps to raise awareness and funds for this great cause.”
Bob has already raised $10,785 in support of Camp Trailblazers this year!
Amanda Lizon attended Camp Trailblazers from 2005 to 2010 and is now 19 years old. Here is a quote from the story she wrote about her experience at camp: “At camp, it’s almost like a different reality where there are no school bullies, nobody trying to put us down, and tons of support from everybody. There are no cruel words and no teasing, only positive encouragement. Together we are one group and we all accept each other for who we are and not what we look like or sound like. Camp Trailblazers is designed to offer youth 10-18 with a facial difference a wilderness experience, while providing a safe environment where feelings, ideas and individuality are respected. We understand that young people benefit from having a special place to make friends, share ideas and create new experiences with others like themselves. Our goal is to encourage youth to impact others, in a positive way, so that they may witness first hand the valuable contribution they personally make in the lives of others.
Camp Trailblazers challenges AboutFace youth to:

- Participate in team building
