ADA Announces Updated Oral Cancer Guidelines

The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be 49,670 new cases of oral cancer this year, with 9,700 deaths from the disease. Dentists may be the first to notice the signs of a potentially malignant disorder (PMD) in patients’ mouths. It’s important to know the best course of action in these situations.

An expert panel convened by the American Dental Association’s Council on Scientific Affairs and the Center for Evidence-Based Dentistry has released an updated guideline to help member dentists appropriately evaluate patients for PMDs and oral cancer.
