ADA Opens Online Registration for 149th Annual Dental Meeting in San Antonio

CHICAGO, May 6, 2008 Registration is now open for the American Dental Association’s (ADA) 149th Annual Session and World Marketplace Exhibition in San Antonio, offering unique learning opportunities, cutting-edge technology and a “Distinguished Speaker Series” that attracts history-making leaders from around the world.

This year’s event will be held Oct. 16-19 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. The convention center, located just steps away from the world-famous Alamo, sits directly on San Antonio’s famous River Walk, a three-mile cobblestone walkway full of restaurants and cafes, shops and galleries. Attendees can conveniently register online at www.ada.org/goto/session.

Innovative Learning, Cutting-Edge Technology, Marketplace of Ideas and Products

The ADA Annual Session offers attendees the choice of more than 225 relevant and topical continuing education courses, the majority of which are free with attendee registration. Registration also includes entrance into the World Marketplace Exhibition, the largest dental exhibition in the U.S., and access to the acclaimed “Distinguished Speaker Series,” featuring a history-making world leader and a giant in network news.

New for 2008 are unique learning opportunities such as the “Live Operatory Center” featuring CAD/CAM technology, 3-D imaging center and a laser pavilion.

“The Live Operatory Center (LOC) is a breakthrough in dental meeting education,” said Dr. Chip Mohme, program chairperson ADA 2008 Annual Session. “Without leaving the exhibit floor, dental professionals can receive continuing education credit in three of the highest tech areas of a dental practice. The ADA Annual Session is the only place where you can see live demonstrations of 3-D imaging and CAD/CAM dentistry, and work hands-on with multiple dental lasers. The LOC will change attendee expectations of what they should see at large dental meetings.”

Additionally, the newly introduced “ADA365.org,” an educational networking Web site, will allow participants in more than 50 Annual Session CE courses to begin their educational experience during the summer of 2008, well in advance of the four-day Annual Session.

Now in its second year, the ADA’s “Education in the Round” learning format offers attendees a series of courses in a unique, interactive, multi-media setting that uses live patients to teach cutting-edge dental techniques.

Registered attendees receive free entry to ADA General Sessions, featuring the “Distinguished Speaker Series,” sponsored by the Johnson & Johnson Healthcare Products Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc.

Former Soviet Union President Mikhail Gorbachev, one of the 20th century’s most pivotal leaders, will take the “Distinguished Speaker Series” podium on Friday, Oct. 17. President Gorbachev opened the gates of reform in the former Soviet Union and unleashed a democratic flood that ended Communist rule in Eastern Europe, ending the Cold War. For his extraordinary leadership, he was awarded the 1990 Nobel Peace Prize, and named Time magazine’s “Man of the Decade.”

On Saturday morning, don’t miss Bob and Lee Woodruff authors of the book “In an Instant” and their story of survival, and of marriage for better and for worse. In January 2006, within weeks of being named co-anchor of ABC’s “World News Tonight,” Bob Woodruff was nearly killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq. Since that day, his remarkable recovery has inspired people all over the world.

Registration for the meeting, scientific sessions and hotels is online at www.ada.org/goto/session, or call 800-232-1432 for more information. At this Web site, you also can download the entire preliminary program and search for continuing education courses by date, topic or speaker.
