Carestream Dental’s CS 3000 Receives Approval For VITABLOCS Mark II Restorative

Partnership Provides New Milling Machine With Fine-Structure Feldspar Ceramic Material for High-Quality Restorations

Carestream Dental and VITA today announced that they are entering into a new partnership to support their respective restoration offerings. Carestream Dental’s CS 3000 milling machine has earned approval from VITA to work with the company’s VITABLOCS® Mark II restorative, a fine-structure feldspar ceramic material. Officially part of the CS Solutions CAD/CAM restoration portfolio the CS 3000 enables practitioners to mill aesthetic, anatomically accurate restorations in a single appointment.

The CS 3000 is a Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) tool featuring a 4-axis brushless motor that produces high-quality restorations with ± 25 μm accuracy. The system’s compact design and quiet, vibration-free milling allow practitioners to use the machine anywhere, even chairside. Additionally, the CS 3000’s sturdy construction provides high torsion-resistance with minimum deviation for precise milling, even after years of use. The average milling time for a crown with the CS 3000 is less than 15 minutes.

“We designed our CS Solutions portfolio to provide dentists with the tools they need to make their restoration workflow more efficient,” said Edward Shellard, D.M.D., chief marketing officer and director of business development for Carestream Dental. “To complement the productivity of the CS 3000, we want industry-leading partners who can offer versatile materials to meet doctors’ preferences. We first looked to VITA because their VITABLOCS® Mark II restorative yields durable, natural results.”

The VITABLOCS® Mark II restorative is a fine-structure feldspar ceramic material that has been on the market for more than 20 years. The restorative is ideal for inlays, onlays, as well as full and partial crowns in the anterior and posterior areas. The highly translucent monochromatic blocks ensure shade matching with patients’ surrounding teeth. This shade integration, also known as the chameleon effect, allows dentists to create customized, aesthetic restorations.

“We’re proud to be Carestream Dental’s partner as they enter into the CAD/CAM product category,” said Patrick Bayer, product manager of custom products for VITA. “Together, the CS 3000 and our VITABLOCS® Mark II restorative provide practices with the resources they need to create aesthetically pleasing restorations without sacrificing quality.” Through this partnership, VITA will also provide Carestream Dental’s CS 3000 customers in the United States with additional tools to complement the VITABLOCS® Mark II restorative, including stains, polishes, modeling liquid, firing stands, shade guides, furnaces and other accessories.

“As an innovator in the restorative dentistry space, VITA shares our goal of helping practices provide the best patient care possible, and our strong partnership will save time for dentists and their patients,” Dr. Shellard said. “We look forward to growing our relationship with VITA and further expanding our offerings to include new materials that can be milled with the CS 3000.”
