Dr. George Freedman selected as the 2012 recipient of the Irwin Smigel Prize in Aesthetic Dentistry

Dr. George Freedman, Educational Director of UDEC (University Dental Education Conference) has been selected as the 2012 recipient of the Irwin Smigel Prize in Aesthetic Dentistry presented by NYU College of Dentistry. He is a nationally and internationally renowned author and lecturer in aesthetic dentistry and dental materials and technology. His publications include more than 700 dental articles and a dozen texts. Dr. Freedman’s most recent textbook is Contemporary Esthetic Dentistry (Elsevier 2012). http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find/bookdescription.cws_home/725177/description#description . He has presented many thousands of hours of continuing education courses, and founded the Post-graduate Programs in Esthetic Dentistry in the United States, Europe and Asia. A Founder and past president of the AmericanAcademy of Cosmetic Dentistry and the Canadian Academy for Esthetic Dentistry, he is very active in dental organizations throughout the world.

The Smigel Prize was presented to Dr. Freedman in Tucsoson, Arizona on October 11, 2012. NYU College of Dentistry established the Smigel Prize in 2000 to recognize the pioneering achievements in aesthetic dentistry of Dr. Irwin Smigel, a graduate of the NYU College of Dentistry and the Founder and President of the American Society for Dental Aesthetics, and to honor significant contributions to the field by others throughout the world.

The Smigel Prize is symbolized by an obelisk designed by Calvin Klein. Previous recipients of the Smigel Prize have been Dr. Gordon Christensen, Dr. Ronald Goldstein, and Dr. K. William (Buddy) Mopper.
