Henry Schein Awarded 2014 William J. Gies Award For Outstanding Achievement

Company Recognized for Exceptional Contributions to Global Oral Health and Oral Health Education

Henry Schein, Inc. (NASDAQ: HSIC), the world’s largest provider of health care products and services to office-based dental, animal health and medical practitioners, was presented with the 2014 William J. Gies Award for Outstanding Achievement in the public or private partner category at a ceremony held recently during the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) Annual Session & Exhibition.  Selected by the ADEA and the ADEAGeis Foundation, the award recognized Henry Schein for its work to advance oral health and oral health education around the world.

Stanley M. Bergman, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Henry Schein, Inc., accepted the award on behalf of Henry Schein. “It is gratifying to have this wonderful recognition of our Company’s commitment to advancing access to global oral health care through public-private partnerships that engage all sectors of the oral health community,” said Mr. Bergman.  “As a catalyst to the creation of these partnerships, we have been privileged to work closely with the ADEA and many other leading professional associations on a wide variety of initiatives through Henry Schein Cares, our global social responsibility program.  We are confident that through our strong partnerships and sustained commitment, we can continue to enhance oral health care around the world.”

Named in honor of Dr. William J. Gies, a pioneering biochemist and dentist who transformed dental education with the publication in 1926 of the Gies Report, Dental Education in the United States and Canada, the Gies Awards honor individuals and organizations exemplifying dedication to the highest standards of vision, innovation and achievement in dental education, research and leadership.

Dr. Bruce Donoff, DMD, MD, Dean of Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Walter C. Guralnick Distinguished Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, presented the award to Henry Schein.  “The decades of commitment that Henry Schein has demonstrated is a wonderful example of corporate responsibility to the professional community that it serves,” said Dr. Donoff.  “Its strong support of dental education in an effort to advance access to care is matched by its programs to enhance wellness and prevention, increase emergency preparedness and relief, and build health care capacity around.”

Public-private partnerships are the foundation of Henry Schein’s global corporate social responsibility model, which is carried out through its Henry Schein Cares program.  The Company is committed to playing a catalyst role in the formation of public-private partnerships with its supplier partners, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), government agencies, professional associations and Team Schein in an effort to effectively mobilize action and collectively address global health issues.  Successful public-private partnerships are pivotal to Henry Schein’s flagship outreach initiatives, including its more than a decade-long commitment as professional product sponsor of the American Dental Association’s Give Kids A Smile program; the Henry Schein Healthy Lifestyles, Healthy Communities program; the NYU College of Dentistry/Henry Schein Cares Global Student Outreach program; and the Henry Schein Cares Global Product Donation program.
