Mark Bartold receives the 2014 IADR/Straumann Award in Regenerative Periodontal Medicine

At the General Session of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) in Cape Town, South Africa, the 2014 IADR/Straumann Award in Regenerative Periodontal Medicine was presented to Professor Mark Bartold in recognition of his remarkable achievements in the field. Professor Bartold has authored more than 230 scientific articles, a number of which focus on his research into the use of periodontal stem cells and the fabrication of bioactive scaffolds for periodontal regeneration.

Worth USD 5000, the Award was created to honor significant contributions in basic and/or clinical research in regenerative periodontal or peri-implant medicine.

Mark Bartold, BDS, BScDent, PhD, DDSc, FRACDS (Perio), is Professor of Periodontics and Director of the Colgate Australian Clinical Dental Research Centre at the University of Adelaide. He is the current President of the International Academy of Periodontology and a past president of the ANZ Division of the IADR, the Asian Pacific Society of Periodontology, the IADR Periodontal Research Group and the Division of Periodontics of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. He is also a member of the editorial boards of eight international dental journals.

Initiated in 2010, the IADR/Straumann Award in Regenerative Periodontal Medicine is sponsored by Straumann and administered by the Periodontal Research Group of the IADR. Previous winners are: Martha Somerman, Ulf Wikesjö, Nikolaos Donos, Anton Sculean and Andreas Stavropoulos. Straumann is a leading contributor to R&D in implant and regenerative dentistry and this award is a further example of the Group’s long tradition in fostering and recognizing excellence in dental research.
