World Oral Health Day Growing in Impact

fdi World Dental FederationWith event notifications from as far afield as Australia and Pakistan and Cambodia and Chile, early figures suggest wide outreach for the World Oral Health Day 2016 campaign among FDI members, dental students and private practitioners.

The messages really hit home in South-East Europe, with the first written reports to FDI coming from Greece, F.Y.R. Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia and Hercegovina, and Montenegro. In addition, reaching over 50 million people on social media (mainly on Twitter and Facebook) means that the WOHD messages are reaching a wider public.

WOHD-Brush Day & Night

FDI President Dr Patrick Hescot participated in two World Oral Health Day events taking place within the FDI-Unilever Brush Day & Night partnership. One took place in, Jakarta, Indonesia on 18 March, with NDA Persatuan Dokter Gigi Indonesia (PDGI), the other, the Run for Smiles race, held in Hanoi with the Vietnam Odonto-Stomatology Association (VOSA) on 20 March.

In addition to Vietnam and Indonesia a variety of World Oral Health Day-Brush Day & Night events were organized by NDAs and local Unilever partners in Europe (Turkey and Greece), Africa (Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana and Morocco), and Asia-Pacific (Sri Lanka and Cambodia).

The Nigerian Dental Association launched World Oral Health Day well in advance with a press event on 10 March announcing plans to reach over 2,000 primary school pupils in Lagos with a health awareness walk.
