New software lets users do more, with faster and easier full-arch scanning
3M ESPE announces the next generation of software powering its Lava Chairside Oral Scanner C.O.S.—Lava Software 3.0. With this new upgrade, users of the Lava C.O.S. from 3M ESPE will enjoy faster and easier scanning, helping make the technology even more efficient. The improvements lay the groundwork for the future in digital replication technology, as the device’s capabilities make it an ever more powerful tool in the dental office.
The upgrade offers a number of key features that greatly enhance the user experience for the Lava C.O.S from 3M ESPE, including:
· Easy Scan: Users have more scanning options that require fewer wand rotations and fixed scanning paths, making a quadrant or a full-arch a faster and easier experience.
· Scan Rewind: Users can turn back the clock on a scan and erase a portion of it without starting over.
· Smart Scan: Lava Software 3.0 eliminates extraneous data, such as a cheek or a tongue. Users can simply move the obstruction and continue to scan the tooth anatomy. Smart Scan automatically removes unwanted data.
· Occlusal Reduction Tool: Dentists can identify under-reduced regions and premature contact points before the patient leaves the chair.

The new software made its debut at the Chicago Dental Society’s Midwinter Meeting in February 2011, after which the rollout and training of the Lava 3.0 software began for new and existing customers.
