Crosstex Introduces the new “Whiskerectomy-Proof” Twist Prophy Angle for Animal Health

Crosstex®, a leading global provider of infection prevention and control products introduces its new Crosstex Twist® Prophy Angles and Prophylaxis Paste into the Animal Health market.

The Twist Prophy angle is the first and only ergonomically designed prophy angle with a 90º reciprocating back-and-forth rotating motion. This patented oscillating motion helps eliminate splatter of prophy paste and eliminates frictional heat, making it friendlier on tooth surfaces while protecting enamel. Expanding on the benefits of Twist’s patented oscillating motion, board-certified veterinary dentist Dr. Daniel T. Carmichael explains that, “Twist has a major advantage over traditional prophy angles; when cleaning and polishing the teeth of companion animals. The unique reciprocating motion helps to reduce heat, paste splatter, and tangles that result from catching animal hairs. The catching and pulling out of whiskers or muzzle hairs—which I often refer to as a ‘whiskerectomy’—can be extremely painful and traumatic.” In contrast to traditional prophy angles that operate with a 360º spin, the patented Twist prophy angle operates with a 90º reciprocating back-and-forth rotating motion.

Crosstex Vet Prophylaxis Paste (available in mint with or without fluoride) is a perfect complement to the Twist Prophy Angle especially since it is xylitol-free. It is always important to use a xylitol-free prophy paste, specifically intended for veterinary use, when cleaning the teeth of dogs and cats. According to leading veterinarian and Seattle Times Columnist Dr. Dana Brooks, “Xylitol is perfectly safe for people, but because of different metabolisms, it can be fatal for dogs and cats.” Because regular human prophy paste often contains xylitol, it should not be used for veterinary procedures.
