Henry Schein Canada First To Offer Dentists Curing Light Testing Service By Bluelight Analytics

Service Will Help Improve the Quality of Care and Patient Experience by Providing Accurate Readings of Curing Light Performance and Energy Output

TORONTO, ONTARIO Henry Schein Canada, the Canadian dental business of Henry Schein, Inc., (NASDAQ: HSIC), announced today the launch of checkMARC®, the world’s only independent and accurate measurement system for testing curing lights at the dental chair-side. Henry Schein Canada will be the first distributor to offer this chair-side service in partnership with BlueLight Analytics, Inc., a technology company specializing in the measurement of curing light energy delivery in dental practices.

BlueLight’s checkMARC® measurement system brings state-of-the-art technology to dental practices by providing accurate readings of curing light performance and energy output, which is critical to ensuring the quality of resin-based composite dental restorations.

Without proper testing, dentists may end up using curing lights that have substandard energy outputs, leading to the under-curing of resin-based composites. Under-curing resin-based composites can lead to a variety of negative outcomes in dental restorations, including: post-operative sensitivity; lack of retention; secondary decay; premature wear and fracture; reduced bond strength; and reduced color stability.

It is estimated that more than 200 million restorations (fillings and crowns) are placed by dentists every year in North America. About three quarters of those procedures require the use of a dental curing light that emits intense blue light. The complexity facing dentists is that every curing light performs differently and every brand and shade of resin composite requires a specific amount of blue light. Like all technologies, curing lights degrade over time and require regular testing to confirm they are performing within designed specification. It is estimated that there may be as many as 500,000 curing lights are in use in North America.

BlueLight’s proprietary checkMARC® testing service is the only independent and accurate test in the world delivered on site at a dental clinic. This measurement of the curing light output enables dentists to accurately cure their resin composite while not over-heating soft tissue or tooth pulp.
