On the occasion of the IDS 2017, KaVo presents a software update with extended product features for the DIAGNOcam caries diagnosis instrument. The KaVo DIAGNOcam utilises the tooth’s structures for caries diagnosis. For this purpose, light is introduced into the root of the tooth, which then serves as a light conductor. The light shines through the tooth and carious lesions show up as dark shades. A digital camera captures the image and makes cracks, interproximal, secondary and occlusal caries recognisable on a computer screen. The recorded images can be stored, which simplifies the monitoring and patient communication significantly.
By way of a software update, the KaVo DIAGNOcam will not only be much easier to install after the IDS 2017, but will also have numerous helpful new product features. As an important feature for users of the CliniView or VixWin x-ray software, the DIAGNOcam will be displayed as an integrated option in the existing x-ray software. This will simplify the control of the caries diagnosis instrument to a significant extent in the dental practices using this software. Moreover, the User Interface of the DIAGNOcam has been completely revamped and now is more intuitive to use and features a modern appearance. Images can be recorded and saved in the patient database both rapidly and easily by briefly pressing on the ring of the camera. The new recording system shows the user if the DIAGNOcam should be closer to or more distant from the tooth surface for a sharp image. This allows an optimal diagnostic image to be attained in the shortest possible period of time. Moreover, the software was supplemented to include an odontogram for primary teeth, which simplifies its use with primary teeth significantly.
Since the unit works with absolutely no x-rays, it can be used for all patients including children and pregnant women. Caries can be recognised very early and in gentle manner and can be treated for prophylaxis or by minimally invasive technique with little pain. Unlike other methods, the clinical significance is not distorted through plaque deposits. Add to this the simple operation, due to which the unit can be integrated into the praxis routines very easily and is easy to operate by all practice staff. Moreover, the unit attains added value in the areas of patient motivation and patient instruction.
