Oravital logo 2Toronto, CA  Oravital, Inc., the Toronto-based developer of the Oravital® System for the diagnosis and treatment of the oral infections that cause periodontal disease, halitosis and caries, will be featuring its recently launched BiofilmDNA™ salivary test at booth #1915 during the Ontario Dental Association’s Annual Spring Session, which is being held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, (South Building) on May 5th and May 6th.

This highly-sensitive DNA test detects the numbers and presence of 6 specific periodontal pathogens, yeast and S mutans via a combination of salivary, tongue, supragingival and subgingival samples. This advanced and accurate biofilm analysis provides the dental clinician with a detailed, whole-mouth picture of the patient’s oral health because unless the whole mouth is tested and treated, reinfection occurs.

According to Oravital CEO, and practicing Toronto dentist Dr. Jim Hyland, “We’re very excited to have the home court advantage as we introduce the latest improvement to our game-changing oral infection diagnosis and treatment system to the Ontario dental community.”Oravital Lab Collage

Orvaital’s new BiofilmDNA™ test is a powerful compliment to its’ BiofilmGS™ test, which uses site-specific Gram stain analysis to determine the exact type and location of oral infection. Both the BiofilmDNA™ and BiofilmGS™ tests are analyzed in Oravital’s on-site, state-of-the-art lab facility, with reports available in about a week. Used together, the two biofilm tests will help the dental clinician accurately identify the following:

  • Periodontal disease pathogens
  • Opportunistic parasites
  • Caries pathogens
  • Yeasts
  • Inflammation response

“The Oravital® System controls 90% of periodontal disease, halitosis and caries in just 4 weeks.  It achieves this by effectively closing the diagnosis/treatment loop by identifying the exact cause and location of oral infection, then providing a regimen of antibiotic and antimicrobial rinses specifically prescribed for the patient’s personal diagnosis,” adds Dr. Hyland.

“Undiagnosed, untreated and preventable oral infections are a Canadian epidemic,” explains Hyland. “We also know that periodontal disease is a contributing factor to many medical conditions such as Alzheimer’s, cardiovascular disease, cancers and diabetes, because the infections spread via bacteremia. With the introduction of BiofilmDNA™, now more than ever, the Oravital® system can have a positive impact on not just the oral health, but the overall health of the patient.”
