OSAP Symposium Great Success

OSAP Attendees Electrified by Infection Control Program

ANNAPOLIS, MD: July 21, 2009 – More than 200 OSAP Symposium attendees from around the world braved a severe electrical storm, tornado warnings, and even an evacuation at the 2009 Symposium, “Infection Prevention: Spread the Word,” held June 11-14 in Plano, Texas, to participate in the most successful OSAP Symposium yet.

The Symposium, which kicked off on the day the World Health Organization declared a worldwide influenza A (H1N1) pandemic, featured up-to-the-minute information on the pandemic, sessions on a wide range of infection control and safety topics, and a record-setting fundraising auction. Also in attendance were nearly 100 dental assistants, who attended the Professional Dental Assisting conference, held in conjunction with the OSAP Symposium.

The 2009 OSAP Symposium offered many new programs, including the innovative INFOBITES, 15-minute rapid-fire presentations on key infection control topics. Henry Schein CEO Stanley Bergman delivered the 4th Annual Dr. John Zapp Memorial Lecture, on Public and Private Partnerships—Important Today, Essential for Tomorrow. Consultants and educators enjoyed programs on infection control and safety issues, tailored to their specialized needs.  It was also a record year for volunteer involvement, with dozens of attendees and family members joining in the fun of making the event a success.

A “Golden Gavel” award from OSAP, ADAA, ADHA, DTA, and OHA was presented to Andy Whitehead for his service in using auctions to raise much-needed funds for nonprofit dental organizations.

The 2010 OSAP Symposium will be held June 10-13 in Tampa, Florida. Dental professionals interested in attending are encouraged to contact OSAP to get on the Symposium notification list so they don’t miss the early bird registration period.
