Carrier based obturator removal techniques

In anticipation of the introduction of MyDentalChronicles to www.oralhealthjournal.com, I thought it might be purposeful to demonstrate what I’m asking others to do.

Armamentarium for removal of carrier based obturator – Touch n’ Heat, System B, Rotary Files, Chloroform, Hedstrom files, Hemostat

Use heat source to remove 2 to 3 mm of gutta-percha or Resilon around the carrier

Fill moat with chloroform – use rotary file (any brand) to ~ 1/2 of estimated WL

Thread in Hedstrom file with light pressure; pull with hemostat
