ADA Highlights

San Francisco, CA–Close to 50,000 dental professionals attended the 148th annual ADA session in San Franscisco. This session hosts the largest dental exhibition in North America with thousands of dental products and exhibits from more than 700 companies. The ADA meeting occupies the space of more than 7.5 football fields.

Highlights of the sessions included:

* Dr. Mark Ryder presented the current state of the art and science of tobacco use and periodontal disease;

* Dr. Ray Padilla addressed trauma recognition and treatment of orofacial injuries. He also provided an evidence-based review of athletic mouthguards and he discussed the responsibilities of a sports team dentist;

* Dr. Gregory Folse discussed the special needs of geriatric patients and adults with physical or mental disabilities;

* Dr. Henry Lee presented on forensic science and the application of the natural sciences such as physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics to matters of the law.

Other presentations included an exploration of oral/systemic health; the mystery of xerostomia; saliva diagnostics; oral longevity and healthy aging; the oral health consequences of methamphetamine abuse, and mass disasters and the valuable role played by dentistry in the aftermath.
