Servicing The Student Body

Dr. Frank Van Gyn recognized that a population of 7,000 people were being under serviced at the University of Victoria, Victoria, BC. Many students are from out of province, outside of Victoria with new and existing faculty and staff needing a conveniently located dental centre. There is a need for this type of service for the majority of campuses in Canada.

Gillian Ley, Interior Designer, developed the design concept based on the consideration that this educational setting needed to be dynamic, innovative and state of the art. Dr. Van Gyn’s criteria was that this 530-sq-ft boutique-style dental centre needed to appeal to a forward-thinking, educated population. It needed to be efficient, practical, dynamic and welcoming with the materials selected and overall design scheme being approachable, conveying quality and exuding an upbeat ambiance.

The new office uses digital radiography, digital intra oral camera systems and a paperless management system.

The office features a vibrant coral, stainless steel, silver and grey color scheme; slate floors; Bubinga wood grain high pressure plastic laminate custom millwork; and two colors of 1/2-inch double laminated bent glass partitions, creating privacy, reflection and mimicking the ceiling curves.
