A new podcast series set to highlight the business side of dentistry

Throughout the pages of Next Gen, we have heard from a number of experts on how to start your own dental practice after graduation. We have looked at whether starting from scratch or with an existing practice is better for you, and how to go about making a practice into your own. If this is a topic that interests you as you move forward in your career and get closer to owning a clinic, I encourage you to listen to Oral Health’s podcast series “Brush Up on Business”.

Brush Up on Business is an offshoot of our ongoing podcast, Brush Up, but with an emphasis on the business side of dentistry. The idea for this series came from Oral Health’s Editorial Board Chairman, Dr. Jordan Soll, who is also the host of these episodes. Dr. Soll has been practicing dentistry for 40 years and has run a successful practice since 1986. He has always had an interest in business and how he could implement different strategies to improve his practice’s success. Now Dr. Soll is taking the knowledge he’s learned and sharing with our readers and listeners.

In this series, a different industry expert will be interviewed each episode with a focus on a key area of practice management, from setting up leases and employment contracts to building your team and handling cybersecurity. It is our hope that these episodes will give the upcoming generation of dental practice owners some insights on how to run a successful practice and set expectations of what’s involved. While you are – or will be – the clinical expert at the practice, you must grow your dental community for optimal success, which includes your dental lawyer, accountant, IT expert, etc. Let this be a jumping off point for a successful and long-lasting career!

I encourage you to learn more about the series and listen to the first episode by visiting our website and Spotify now. Please let me know any feedback you have or if there are future topics you would like to learn about by sending me an email at marley@newcom.ca.
