Dr. Leigha Rock, director of the School of Dental Hygiene at Dalhousie University, is advocating for more awards for the dental hygiene students and an increase in sums.

Dalhousie recently reported that the annual scholarships have been generating the same amount of funds for the last 25 years, not adjusting to match the economic times.

Rock leveraged her status at the university to create a new scholarship called the Highest Academic Achievement in Dental Hygiene Award, that will take $1,000 per year from the “Annual Giving Fund,” which alumni and other donors contribute to throughout the year.

The first student to receive this award was Katie Morgan at the 2023 Academic Awards Ceremony.
