Wrapping up the first year of Oral Health’s Next Gen

As we approach the end of the year, I wanted to reflect on some of the highlights from Oral Health’s first year of Next Gen – the section of the magazine focused on educating and assisting new dentists as they begin their careers.

Many unique, impressive dental students and recent graduates took part in the “Next Gen of the Month” Q&A where our readers were able to get to know some of their peers on a deeper level. Those featured shared origin stories for their love of dentistry, their biggest career achievements thus far, inspirational patient stories, and much more.

Each monthly edition of Next Gen included a profile on a different dental organization, demonstrating how up and coming dentists can get involved in their schools or communities. From the New Dentist Study Club in Toronto to the Indigenous Medical and Dental Students’ Association (IMDSA) in Alberta, there are networking and learning opportunities available across the country. Filling the Gap and Access for All are a couple of non-profit organizations that we covered, which provide volunteer opportunities for students to help treat underserved communities while also building their skill sets. We look forward to featuring even more outstanding organizations and clubs in the coming year and showcasing how important these groups are. If you are involved in a dental organization that you believe should be highlighted, we welcome you to get in touch as we’d love to learn more.

Experienced professionals and industry experts shared their wisdom across multiple topics such as building your own practice, finance, and marketing. We are grateful for everyone who has been willing to share some pieces of wisdom from their successful careers in the dental industry. We have begun building an excellent hub of information for any new dentist looking to launch their practice. The articles are always available on our website: oralhealthgroup.com/nextgen/.

Moving into the new year and the second year of Next Gen, I welcome new voices to share your stories, advice, or even your struggles. If you have a unique pathway into dentistry or some great advice for future graduates, please get in touch as we would be pleased to share your words with our growing Next Gen community of readers. Thank you for an amazing first year!
