Completely Digital Workflow for Treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea

SICAT Air is the first 3D solution that enables analysis of the upper airways in 3D volume and illustrates the workflow of a splint-based treatment completely digitally. With this software, dental practitioners can quickly and easily order mandibular advancement splints that reduce or alleviate the symptoms of mild to moderate OSA.

Coordinated processes boost trust and confidence
Ensuring the safety of the treatment begins during the preparation. The three-point head fixation device and the patented occlusal bite block of the Orthophos SL support the ideal and safe positioning of the patient during the creation of the 3D images. These 3D images for the analysis of the airways and planning of the splint treatment can be created with a significantly reduced dose as low as 9µSv thanks to Low Dose. In combination with the SICAT Air software, the user is able to carry out automatic segmenting of the airways so that they receive a precise insight into the anatomy of the upper airways and an exact overview of the constrictions that are present. All of the airway parameters, even the smallest cross-sections for example, and the volume of the airways are displayed. In addition, the comparison of the airways in the software allows the dentist to directly compare two segmented 3D images that show the airway situation in the normal condition and that achieved in the therapy position. The 3D Low Dose scan and the variety of methods of presentation offered by SICAT Air aid patient consultations and acceptance of the suggested treatment.

A subsequent optical impression captured with the CEREC Omnicam contributes to the exact data on the situation of the tooth and the mouth. After combining the data in the software to create an overall picture, the treatment splints can be ordered digitally via the software. SICAT creates the OPTISLEEP treatment splint in Bonn, Germany, completely digitally with the help of the planning data.

An impressive product range for the IDS 2017
Alongside the analysis of the upper airways and the treatment with a mandibular advancement splint, Dentsply Sirona also serves other indication areas with SICAT. The dentist is assisted when treating patients with implants by the Optiguide surgical guide. The surgical guide can be ordered from the Galileos Implant planning software by using a combination of the data from the 3D X-ray image and the data from the digital impression.

“Like no other company, Dentsply Sirona has combined individual applications to create a completely thought out digital workflow,” said Group Vice President for Germany, the Benelux countries and Scandinavia at Dentsply Sirona Marcus Böhringer. “That creates efficient processes in the practices and provides more comfort for patients.” At the IDS 2017 in halls 10.2 and 11.2, Dentsply Sirona is demonstrating the impressive interplay of the components from CAD/CAM Imaging and SICAT – for better, faster and safer dentistry.
