Heraeus Kulzer Launches Powder-Free, Scannable, Time-Saving Flexitime Fast & Scan Impression Material

Scannable impression material saves time for the dental practice and laboratory

SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, October 2013 — Heraeus Kulzer, LLC, the worldwide leader in dental esthetics, announced the launch of Flexitime Fast & Scan VPS (Vinylpolysiloxane) impression material.  The company developed Flexitime Fast & Scan in concert with dentists and lab technicians to enable more accurate, efficient and customized work procedures.

As the first complete, scannable impression material, Flexitime Fast & Scan is unique among A-silicones by enabling powder-free scanning.  This allows dentists affordable access to modern CAD/CAM restorations without the need to change customary impression techniques or to invest in hardware and software. Direct scanning of impressions saves time, reduces inaccuracies and offers optimal workflow integration.

With Flexitime Fast & Scan, there are no limits regarding the preparation and impression of subgingival margins. The dentist also benefits from increased efficiency in the handling process with the laboratory. The lab can directly work on the digital design and initiate computer-aided manufacturing even before the gypsum model is poured and hardened. This way, dentist and lab can save time in the process. At the same time, the digitized data facilitates joint restoration planning and communication between client and laboratory.

With its extra-fast yet flexible time approach, Flexitime Fast & Scan is ideally suited for one-to-three-unit impressions. It covers a wide range of indications and can be used for crowns and bridges, inlays and onlays, and even implants. With a flexible working time ranging from 30 to 90 seconds and an intraoral setting time of two minutes, work procedures are much faster than with other impression materials. Flexitime Fast & Scan achieves this by controlling polymerization kinetics by mouth temperature.  This allows the impression to set rapidly after insertion into the mouth, thereby accelerating the process of impression taking and benefiting the patient as well as the practice.  When used with Heraeus Kulzer’s perfectly matched Dynamix® speed mixing machine, even greater time savings can be achieved.

Flexitime Fast & Scan materials possess high-level physical properties that allow for outstanding precision. The flow materials feature state-of-the-art hydrophilicity, toughness and flowability, and thus ensure excellent detail reproduction and precisely fitting prostheses as well as a significantly reduced need for repeat impression-taking.

Flexitime Fast & Scan extends Heraeus Kulzer’s range of Flexitime precision impression materials.  In addition to the original Flexitime impression material, the company offers:  Flexitime Xtreme, the original single-unit impression solution; the scannable Flexitime Bite; and the recently launched Flexitime Monophase Pro Scan. Flexitime Fast & Scan comes in four different viscosities—Putty, Heavy Tray, Medium Flow and Light Flow—and three different delivery forms.
