Hu-Friedy Announces The 10TH Annual Ortho Wire Bending Contest

Ortho Art Competition Adds Exciting New Online Component

Hu-Friedy, a global leader in the manufacture of dental instruments and products, today announced the launch of the 10th Annual Ortho Wire Bending Contest.  For the past decade, Hu-Friedy has been challenging orthodontic residents and practitioners worldwide to showcase their creativity and wire-bending talents during an onsite competition at the annual AAO show.  This year, Hu-Friedy is giving even more practitioners an opportunity to be recognized for their wire-bending creations. With a brand new online component, the “Voter’s Choice contest,” there are now four chances to win.

Both the online and onsite contests offer two separate submission categories: Single Wire and Anything Goes. The rules are simple: entries in the “Single Wire” category must be designed from a single piece of orthodontic wire, while entries in the “Anything Goes” category can be designed from multiple orthodontic wires.

The online Voter’s Choice Contest will accept submissions from January 21 – March 8, 2013. All submissions will be posted to Hu-Friedy’s Facebook and Pinterest social media pages beginning March 11, 2013 and will be open for voting through April 1, 2013.  All online submissions are also eligible to bring to the onsite contest at AAO. The winner(s) of the online contest will be announced on April 2nd and displayed at AAO.  Winners will be automatically entered into the onsite contest.  The online winner for “Anything Goes” will receive $1,500 (retail value) worth of Hu-Friedy Ortho Instruments and the “Single Wire” winner will win $500 (retail value) worth of Hu-Friedy instruments.  Contestants can enter at www.hu-friedy.com/wire-bending-contest.

For the AAO onsite contest, submissions will be accepted at Hu-Friedy’s booth from the start of the show on May 4th until closing on May 6th.  Judging will take place the evening of May 6th and winners will be announced on May 7th.  Orthodontic wire and instruments will be available at the Hu-Friedy booth throughout the show for Single Wire submissions to be created on site.  Prizes include: $3,000 (retail value) worth of Hu-Friedy Ortho Instruments for Anything Goes and $1,000 (retail value) worth of Hu-Friedy instruments for the winner of the Single Wire competition.

“We’re excited to announce the online expansion of one of our favorite annual traditions, the popular Ortho Wire Bending Contest that has been a part of Hu-Friedy’s presence at the annual AAO show for the past 10 years.  This new web component allows us to tap into a whole new online audience, allowing more competition and additional chances to win.” said Ken Serota, President, Hu-Friedy Manufacturing, LLC “We look forward to reaching out to the ortho community through social media and giving them the chance to cast the deciding vote.”

Both contests are open to global Orthodontic residents and private practitioners.  Go to www.hu-friedy.com/wire-bending-contest for a list of full contest details.  To check out past Wire Bending contest entries submitted over the past decade go to Hu-Friedy’s Facebook and Pinterest social media pages.  Don’t forget to “Like” and “Repin” your favorites!
