The AIR-FLOW Handy 3.0 PREMIUM offers a portable solution with unparalleled versatility and efficiency
This portable unit gives clinicians the best of both worlds by providing an effective method for both supra and subgingival biofilm and stain removal, and is simply connected to the dental unit.
AIR-FLOW Therapy is different than other well-known air polishing systems and offers benefits to both the clinician and patient that are difficult to replicate with other procedures. For instance, AIR-FLOW Therapy, along with AIR-FLOW PERIO Powder, is safe for tissue, enamel, root surfaces, ortho brackets, porcelain composite restorations, and even implants & implant abutments. It’s also more comfortable and less messy than standard air polishers.
“Hu-Friedy is the only manufacturer that can offer clinicians a solution for every step of a superior oral health process – from diagnosis to stain & biofilm removal to both hand and power scaling for calculus removal,” shares Ken Serota, President of Hu-Friedy. “Integrating an AIR-FLOW Therapy device like the new Handy 3.0 PREMIUM into patient treatment plans offers a significant enhancement to clinicians’ routines and more importantly, to patients’ health.”
Designed to be used specifically with the unique Hu-Friedy EMS AIR-FLOW PERIO powder (made from glycine), the Handy 3.0 PREMIUM has the versatility to easily, efficiently and effectively remove harmful biofilm from both supragingival and subgingival areas of the tooth. It includes two handpiece attachments for supragingival (PLUS) and subgingival (PERIO) applications with one Handy unit. For supragingival cleaning, the PLUS handpiece is used on the tooth’s surface to remove biofilm and light stain. For shallow subgingival cleaning, the PLUS handpiece is directed at the sulcus to quickly clean all biofilm up to 4mm. For site-specific subgingival cleaning, the PERIO handpiece is used with the PERIO-FLOW disposable nozzles for cleaning of deeper pockets.
Due to its versatility and ease of use, the AIR-FLOW Handy 3.0 PREMIUM is an ideal way for clinicians to incorporate AIR-FLOW Therapy into their practice. Karen Davis, RDH, BSDH, international speaker and founder of Cutting Edge Concepts®, shares her clinical experience using AIR-FLOW Therapy, “Since low-abrasive powders and air polishing devices are so efficient in biofilm removal, clinicians can begin with use of that technology, finishing up with use of power and hand instruments to remove calcified deposits and remaining stains.

Rubber cup polishing is not required. This simple transition of going after the biofilm first with the most efficient technology saves about 10 minutes of instrumentation time per patient.”
In addition to the AIR-FLOW Handy 3.0 PREMIUM, Hu-Friedy offers a full line of AIR-FLOW products, including six other units to suit the specific needs of each practice, as well as powders for both supragingival and subgingival treatments.
In 2014, Hu-Friedy and EMS formed a strategic alliance to deliver the most clinically advanced prophylaxis protocol to the U.S. and Canadian markets by leveraging Hu-Friedy’s heritage in high-quality instrumentation, coupled with best-in-class EMS offerings in air polishing and Piezo power scaling, all backed by legendary Hu-Friedy service and support.
